Case Studies

250kW Commercial Demonstration, Newbridge, VIC (2015)

Newbridge is the first site deployment of the RayGen PV Ultra technology and has over 30 months of operating data. The PV Ultra tower is retailing electricity (soon to include heat) behind-the-meter to a large agribusiness in central Victoria, Australia.

The Newbridge site consists of:

  • an R1-0.2MWe power tower,
  • 64 self-powered, self-aligning heliostats,
  • wireless mesh network for heliostat control,
  • central inverter, with AC output feeding the manufacturing site network to displace mains grid metered consumption, and
  • control system and data acquisition.

Newbridge is not only an important source of data to track real-world performance, but it has doubled as a proving ground for the control software underlying the current R1-0.2MWe and the R3-1.0MWe.

500KW Expansion, Newbridge, VIC (due Q1 2018)

RayGen is expanding the PV Ultra system to match the expansion of the agribusiness in central Victoria. This will include heat integration with the new agribusiness (once completed). The deployment uses fully qualified modules of the upgraded 25MW p.a. manufacturing facility.

The Newbridge expansion consists of:

  • two R1-0.2MWe power towers,
  • 128 self-powered, self-aligning heliostats,
  • wireless mesh network for heliostat control,
  • central inverter, with AC output feeding the manufacturing site network to displace mains grid metered consumption,
  • control system and data acquisition.

250kW Commercial Demonstration, Zhuozhou, China (2015)

Zhuozhou is the first international deployment of the RayGen PV Ultra technology, located at an automotive tape manufacturing site near Beijing, China.

The Zhuozhou facility consists of:

  • an R1-0.2MWe power tower,
  • 64 self-powered, self-aligning heliostats,
  • wireless mesh network for heliostat control,
  • central inverter, with AC output feeding the manufacturing site network to displace mains grid metered consumption, and
  • control system and data acquisition.

RayGen is proud to have received the Victorian Export Award for Innovation Excellence at the Governor of Victoria Export Awards 2015 as a result of the Zhuozhou project.
